Program Strengths

The program offers students a number of key advantages:

  • Breadth and depth of experience
Industry-experienced professors bring real-world examples and insights into classes. Significant professional experience among diverse peers means richer understanding of concepts, immediate application of learning, and a high-caliber network.
  • Exposure to latest management thinking
Gain deeper insights into management strategy through exclusive industry exposure. Company visits, guest speakers from government and industry, alumni feedback panels, and a comprehensive curriculum provide students with incredible depth of management exposure.
  • Policy understanding for competitive advantage
Governmental regulation, such as Sarbanes-Oxley and the Affordable Care Act, significantly impact the way organizations operate and compete, making it important to gain the knowledge and foresight to navigate the political landscape. The program’s framework helps students understand the public policy process and experience what it’s like to work within it, offering the unique opportunity to connect with legislators and lobbyists.
  • Personalized insights for optimum development
Because each EMBA student differs in professional background, experience, and goals, the W. P. Carey program takes a “business is personal” approach in its commitment to career development. Dedicated career services coaches, experienced in meeting the needs of executive students, as well as external executive coaches, work one-on-one with students to plan and address career and professional development.
Curriculum Highlights

The W. P. Carey School of Business uses a variety of teaching methods, including case studies, role play, and simulations to ensure students develop high-level skills and confidence across the major business disciplines. The Executive MBA curriculum also emphasizes ethical, high-impact leadership, helping students develop and sustain a competitive advantage, interpret and use data for decision-making, and hone the requisite soft skills necessary for senior leaders.

Intellectual rigor, exposure to diverse industries, practices, and ideas, and interaction with world-renowned faculty and exceptional students make the W. P. Carey EMBA a transformational experience that can fundamentally change the way that students think, act, and lead.

EMBA students can personalize the degree to meet their career goals. Electives offered exclusively in the EMBA — as well as those offered as part of other W. P. Carey MBA platforms — add depth and diversity to the experience, hone skills, or develop new strengths.

EMBA electives change every year. Sample EMBA electives include How Leaders Drive Strategy and Building Innovative Organizations. Cross-platform electives allow students to take a deeper dive in areas such as marketing, health care management, finance, and supply chain.

Leadership Development

Two classes in High Impact Leadership mark the beginning and the end of the Executive MBA experience, with one in the first year and one in the second year. Delivered in conjunction with annual 360-degree feedback reviews, this unique approach to leadership teaching enables students to self-assess their leadership style early in the program and evaluate its evolution and development as they reach the end of the program.

And, to provide personalized, high-level direction in the area of professional development, the W. P. Carey School contracts with private executive coaches who work one-on-one with each EMBA student.

Even the highest performers recognize that to reach the next level in their development, they need someone who knows more than they do in a particular space to help guide them. The school’s EMBA coaches come from diverse professional backgrounds — all with extensive management experience at the highest levels. They help students address professional behaviors, management style, and executive presence. They also offer objective, candid suggestions or perspective on particular professional challenges, gaps, or roadblocks that students might face in their classes or careers.

These coaching sessions provide a unique and valuable learning tool in refining leadership approaches, helping students become more effective leaders.
